3rd Annual Haunted Halloween Party

We had a great time at our Halloween party. We saw a lot of great costumes and of course Jon came through once again with a very creative idea. Beck loved the music and strobe light. Happy Halloween!!!

We took Beckham to a cute little Halloween spot. It was freezing cold! He rode the cow train and we took a haunted hayride in the dark to look at all the Jack-O-Lanterns. It was our first big adventure out with both kids. Dad was a good sport and entertained Beckham along with Aunt Candice. I am not sure how Halloween will go this year as you can tell even a pumpkin can frighten him. I guess there is one really good incentive to Beck NANDY.

This is Great Grandpa Helm. Ira was born on his 74th birthday.

Poll Results

The poll results are in and we officially have a tie between Ira, Henry, and Griffin. Thank you for you input; I never imagined being so indecisive on my child's name. You can all hope for a girl on our next child (in many years) because that name is a slam dunk.

We called in the name this morning...Ira Robert Shipley. I love the name and Jess does not. I let her know last night that we had to pick a name by the morning. She woke up while I was sneaking out to work this morning and said, "just name him Ira." I know what you are saying..."Ira! I can't believe they named him Ira. He is going to have to go by his middle name." Well, I hope this is not the case and let me explain why I like the name.

I love the name because every Ira I have ever heard of has been a strong and honorable man. Ira Ames is one of our ancestors that crossed the planes and was friends with both Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. Come to find out, Ira Ames is a relative on both of our sides (which may explain the baby's webbed toe). Ira Milton Anderson was Jess's great grandfather. He died at age 32 leaving his wife with 6 young children. His eldest son whom is also named Ira quit school and went to work to support his mother and brothers and sisters. Ira Hayes was one of the flag raisers on Iwo Jima (on the famous picture of the second flag). He was honorable in battle and honorable when he returned home (as he felt it was his duty to let the parents of one of the flag raisers that was misidentified know that it was really their son), although he ended up trying to drown his battle memories in alcohol. Ira Fulton is successful and donates a lot of money to BYU, so he sounds like a good guy also. These are all the Iras that I know about. The bottom line is that I believe Ira is a strong name that will provide a great legacy for him to live up to.

Hopefully you like the name or are like Jess and hope to like the name some day. I'm sure we will get some comments on this one, so let's hear them.

Beckham #2

I thought I better post a few more pictures of our no named son before his prodigal brother returns to our house to rule and reign over us once again. I am beginning to feel the pressure of choosing a name. I actually have several perfect names but my husband seems to have strong opinions of his own. He has given me the option of naming this one if he gets to name the next. I don't think it is worth the chance as he did want to name this baby Cub. I think we could just continue on the Beckham pattern and this one can be #2.

New Baby

He is here! And his name is...yet to be determined...Ira, Finn, Dean, Henry??? Opinions anyone? Well, whatever his name is, he was born on October 3 at 12:42 in the afternoon. He weighed 7 pounds 2 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. The labor went well. Jess did great and it was much easier than the first. I believe it was about 6 hours from start to finish.

Snap Shots

It has become quite difficult to get Beckham to take a picture. He is way more interested in the camera. Here are some random snaps that I got of him. I figure I need to get as many as I can before he looses some fame to a younger brother.

Utah State Fair 2007

It is our tradition to attend the State Fair here in Utah. This year was fun because Beckham loved the animals. He was overwhelmed by all he had to look at. Maybe he will be a farmer one day and join the FFA. I do know that he is not quite ready to be a Rodeo Clown. The crowd was a little too wild for his taste as you will see in his bawling picture.

Labor Day

It seems we need to escape the Valley pretty often and what better place to head than St. George. It is our home away from home. We got to spend a few days there with my family. Needless to say Beck was taught some new things. His dad is the one who put him on the motorcycles naked. I think he may take after his Papa and uncles with the dirt bikes. We tried to get him to try on some gear at the store but he is tough and prefers no padding. We taught him to say thank you and Zachy and Drew. Mostly he just copies what we said. He is really into riding on bikes and he found this little iron decorative bike and tried hard to ride it around. It was a riot to watch. He entertains us constantly and is sure getting a mind of his own.

Aspen Grove

We went up to Aspen Grove with Jon's company for the summer party for a couple of days. It was very pretty and Beck loved being in the outdoors so much.

Bubba

Shipley Caribbean Cruise

We had a lot of fun with all the Shipley clan on a cruise this summer. Beck really had a great time with his cousins. He spent a lot of time eating ice cream and pizza.

Lake Powell

This was Beck's second trip to Lake Powell. He loved every minute of it. He spent a lot of time on the boat because it made a good play pen. He loved to go on boat rides and especially like driving the boat. His uncle Alex taught him a new word "Nandy" which means "Candy" and Beck ate his fair share. He also learned how to say "ouch" He liked to point out the moon and stars to us each night and can say "moon" I love to hear all the new little words that he is learning. " Oh" is still a big part of his vocabulary and I hope it stays that way for a long time. Beck gets a ton of attention especially from his aunts and uncles and grandparents. You can ask him where people are and he points them out. He is very lucky to have so many people who love to be with him. He is the first grandchild to invade our vacations on the Helm side and so far he is faring well.

Fun in the Sun

We spend most of our days out in the sunshine. Beck loves to get wet and learned from Grandpa Helm how to drink out of the hose. He thinks that is pretty great.

The Farm

We visited Thanksgiving Point Farm today with some friends. Beckham started singing Ei-Ei-Oh as soon as he saw the animals. I must say he had the most fun just running all around and playing in the toys for sale so needless to say he went home with a tractor.

Aunt Robyn's Wedding

Aunt Robyn's wedding was in May and all the Shipley clan came into town. Beck got to be with all his cousins at once for the first time. It was a beautiful wedding!

Fun on the Slides

We like to meet Dad for lunch and go up Provo Canyon to the park. We do have park at our new house but it is much more fun with Dad!
